67 Minutes of Service: Marematlou Staff Clean Schools to Honour Mandela’s Legacy
“It’s in our hands to combat poverty and inequality.”
In celebration of Mandela Day on 18 July, Marematlou Group Holdings lived up to the spirit of the day by answering Nelson Mandela’s rallying cry “to inspire change through the actions of many small gestures” with meaningful deeds in Bloemfontein. Members of the Marematlou team dedicated themselves to cleaning and beautifying two local schools: Lekhulong Secondary School in Bloemfontein and Qelo School of Skills in Botshabelo. Over the course of the day, employees worked side by side, painting walls, clearing litter, and restoring classroom environments. This hands on approach served as a powerful reminder of Mandela Day’s mission to volunteer for at least 67 minutes as a meaningful act of giving back.
Beyond the immediate impact, the event carried a deeper message. It reaffirmed Marematlou’s enduring commitment to uplift the community and showcased the company’s belief in service as a fundamental business value. Senior management emphasised that volunteering is not a one off gesture, but a responsibility to foster sustainable change. Staff feedback highlighted a renewed sense of purpose, unity, and pride values that Marematlou actively nurtures in its corporate culture through regular community engagement.
Looking ahead, Marematlou Group Holdings is reinforcing its pledge to the less fortunate. Plans are already underway for quarterly outreach events, such as additional school clean ups extending to other schools. The company aims to form partnerships with local NGOs and municipalities to ensure these efforts have lasting impact. By investing time, resources, and human capital, Marematlou continues to honour Mandela’s legacy not just on Mandela Day, but every day.
