The Extended Hour Programme started on February 13, 2023, and will conclude on November 24, 2023, across the seven districts in the Eastern Cape. This programme focuses on schools with high enrolment and low performance in Mathematics, Physical Sciences and Accounting, which are the critical focus subjects. In essence, EHP is designed for schools that struggle in these subjects or schools with a significant number of learners.

The main purpose of EHP is to identify the content gaps of learners in these subjects and devise suitable teaching methods to close the content gaps of learners. Moreover, EHP aims to support level 1 and level 2 learners by affording them extra time for revision and ensuring that learners are sufficiently prepared for the examinations, to improve their overall performance. EHP programme is conducted before and after Department of Education tuition. Specifically, it runs from 06:00 to 07:45 in the morning and from 14:30 to 18:00 in the afternoon, Monday to Friday. On weekends, the program runs from 08:00 to 17:00.
