EBSCO is giving away awesome tech prizes in a competition open to both students and staff at universities or colleges across South Africa.
You can enter by submitting a video for the grand prize, or just a photograph showing how you can use EBSCO to help with your academic research. EBSCO gives you access to a vast repository of reliable and peer-reviewed research. Avoid the pitfalls of AI’s hallucinated facts and the unreliable information that is found across the Internet.
PRIZES
- The entrant with the best video overall will win the grand prize of an Android Tablet to the value of R2,000.
- 5 x Runner up prizes of tech hampers including Bluetooth headsets and power banks to the value of R1,000 each will be up for grabs for top video submissions.
- The 10 best photo submissions will win Bluetooth headphones to the value of R500 each.
HOW TO ENTER
To enter the main competition, send us a video no longer than 1 minute showing how you use the EBSCO Mobile App to Step into Research Success.
To enter the photo only competition, send us a photo showing how you use EBSCO Mobile App to Step into Research Success.
Entries can be submitted on social media or via email.
Social media entries can be posted to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and must include the hashtag #EBSCOResearchSuccess and mention your university. For Facebook entries, please also tag EBSCO’s profile page at facebook.com/EBSCOSubSaharanAfrica.
Email entries must be submitted to jwilkins@ebsco.com with your university included in the email body and the subject “EBSCOResearchSuccess video” or “EBSCOResearchSuccess photo”, depending on what you are submitting.
COMPETITION DETAILS
Entry is open to all students and staff at universities or colleges in South Africa. Judging will be carried out by a panel of judges made up of EBSCO staff. Entries will be judged on their relevance, quality, creativity and how well they showcase the anytime, anywhere access to quality library resources available through the EBSCO Mobile App.
Here’s the winning video from a similar competition run last year to give you some ideas, but be creative and do something new to show how EBSCO helps you to step into research success. Please note that videos must NOT exceed 1 minute for this competition.
Closing Date is Friday, 30 August 2024. Winners announced Friday, 13 September 2024.

EBSCOHOST PASSPORT
EBSCOhost Passport enhances the research experience by integrating web searches with library resources directly from your web browser. This tool is particularly useful for ensuring that users can seamlessly transition between general web searches and in-depth library research without losing context. It’s designed to simplify the research process, making it more intuitive and less time-consuming by bridging the gap between external information and library collections.

EBSCO MOBILE APP
The EBSCO Mobile App is designed to provide easy and convenient access to library resources on the go. It allows users to search through library databases, download, and read eBooks directly from their mobile devices.
