Project Tshehetso Camp

JENN Training and Consultancy continues to afford Project Tshehetso the support it deserves.

2021 marks the 4th consecutive year that JENN Training and Consultancy host the 1st year group from Project Tshehetso. Hosted at the Marematlou Training Institute campus in Bloemfontein from 28-31 July, this camp was one of many firsts. The first to have the group convene during the Covid-19 restrictions (which almost had the camp not happen due to the tighter level 4 restrictions sanctioned just before the end of July); the first to come together in the middle of their first year, and not at the beginning, to mention a few.

The project, which was initiated to bridge the gap between Grade 12 and 1st year studies for many future engineers in the Free State. This year’s camp saw the first intake of 2018 first years come back to tutor the 2021 group. This is a re-ensuring sign that ‘our’ kids are being well looked after in the 3 Universities where the project is currently being administered. The programme covers mentoring and tutoring as an on going process in core engineering subjects such as:

Mathematics/Calculus, Physics and also some content subjects e.g. Mechanics, Chemistry, etc. The programme not only assists learners’ transition to Varsity only academically, but also offers support in other facets such as mental well-being and even promotes physical training (the camps are infamously known for this aspect).

The Public Relations Officer of Marematlou Group Holdings, who has also been the lead project administer on behalf of Jenn Training and Consultancy had the following to say:

“When I got the call from Project Tshehetso’s founder, Thabang Sebetoane – who himself is a Graduate in: BSc (Mech Eng) from UCT- and a member of the South African Air Force, I was not shocked to say the least. As a programme that we have been sponsoring since its inception and being in the business of academic interventions in the FET phase; we understand very well the challenges that many of our first years are now experiencing, post writing their NSC with the cloud of the Covid-19 pandemic hanging heavily upon us. We as JENN have always taken pride in this project and what it stands for, and will continue to help the group to “Engineer the Free State” as best as we can.” JENN and Tshehetso are both looking forward to what the future will bring in terms of working together towards academic reclamation in the Free State, and beyond.
