Children are the living message we send to a time that we will not see.
Section 28 of the Bill of Rights in our Constitution states that “every child has the right to basic nutrition, shelter, health care and social services, as well as the right to be protected from maltreatment, neglect, abuse or degradation”. One of the reasons for not achieving these rights, is inadequate resources to fully implement the law.
With household expenses that have skyrocketed in the past few months, those deemed less fortunate have found it even more challenging to meet the ever growing needs of their fast growing children, more especially in primary schools.
JENN Training and Consultancy is on a continual quest to help alleviate home situations through the donation of school supplies in underprivileged areas in the Eastern Cape. The school supplies, which were in this case in the form of full school uniform and shoes, were paired with a food parcel that was then given to the household of the selected 50 uniform recipients.
It is said that the average cost of uniform in South Africa is between R500-R800 for non-specific uniform. And for some parents this could be done twice a year, because we all know how ‘interesting it is to be kicking stones on a walk back from school’.
Through the donation of school items to the little ones, JENN wishes to ensure access to at least one basic right – one learner at a time.
