
Five years of awarding excellence in the Eastern Cape.
For the 5th consecutive year, the Annual SADTU Eastern Cape Teachers Awards was held at the Iconic East London International Convention Centre on the 9th of April 2022, and the much anticipated day had been set to the nines.
This event like many others before it was graced by many dignitaries including amongst others: the MEC of Education in the Eastern Cape, Mr Fundile Gade; The Premier of the Eastern Cape, Mr Oscar Mabuyane; SADTU Eastern Cape Chairperson, Mr Tabile Kunene and former Marematlou Group Holdings Marketing Manager, Mr Jack Mokoena; amongst many others.
Eastern Cape celebrated yet another increase in their matric pass rate, leaving them at 73.0% pass rate at the end of the 2021 academic year. That’s 13.7% increase in the past 5 years.
As a result, this year saw a whopping 250 educators be awarded for outstanding results produced across the entire Eastern Cape Province during the 2021 National Senior Certificate sitting.
“The teacher awards have taken shape as far as ‘creating a learning nation’, and awarding excellence in these past 5 years. This initiative is one of JENNs pride, when also considering the immense work colleagues put in, in our districts of operation towards making valuable changes in the teaching and learning culture,” elucidated Mr Jack Mokoena.
